Hello hello,
Welcome to the Figma Decal Community! (And to those of you who joined us earlier this year, welcome back) π I'm Ace, the lead instructor of Figma Decal. On behalf of our whole team, thank you for trusting and joining us on this semester's course β we're so excited to learn this fall, and there's a lot in store for you!
=====
When we started our interest form in January, we never expected so many people to sign up, but here you are! Because of that, unfortunately, we didn't have a proper newsletter in place, and we'd been sending you all bcc emails... But good news: this is the last bcc email you'll receive! We're officially putting an end to that and moving to a Google Group for our newsletter β this migration will happen over the next few days, so you'll start seeing it on Monday. You'll still be able to reply to newsletters and contact our team, too. (This also means there's actually a proper way to unsubscribe and/or leave the mailing list.) π¨
On top of that, we want to clean up the newsletter a bit. Today's is out of the ordinary since it's course updates and news, but during the semester we'll do a deeper dive into the lecture, homework, and lab activities. You'll hear from us every Monday for info on that week's content. We'll also (fingers crossed) get to feature student and staff projects every now and then, so stay tuned!
The most exciting (and challenging) thing about teaching Figma is that it's constantly updating β and so we are too. We always want our course to be a way for anybody to learn Figma, and that means updating our curriculum each semester to teach you the Latest and Greatest in Figma technology! Most notable is the release of Figjam (beta), a collaborative whiteboarding tool. If you followed along with our class this past spring, keep an eye out for these updates and jam with us! π₯πΈπΉ
*** You can only apply if you're a UC Berkeley student AND want to take this course for credit! You DO NOT have to apply if you want to audit (take the course without credit). ***
If you fit that description, you can now apply at bit.ly/figmadecal-applyfa21! The application is open until September 3rd, 11:59 PM PDT. We're running labs and lectures both in-person (for Decal students) and online (for students and auditors):
Finally, our Slack Community is still open β join through this link! We plan to be way more active this semester now that we have the hang of our curriculum and running the decal. If you join, send an intro message in #welcome! See you there π
=====
That's all for now β your regularly scheduled programming will start this coming Monday. Feel free to send any questions to [email protected] (or reply to this message). We're so so excited to get started this fall, and we'll see you in class!
All the best,
Ace ChenΒ (he/him/his)
